Immersed in the greenery of the San Bartolo Park, the Archaeological Area and the Antiquarium of Colombarone, a site rich in architectural traces and adjacent museum with the finds of the excavations, document centuries of history of the Middle Adriatic area.

Many years of research, from 1983 to 2008, have allowed us to discover a unique and special area, from which a late antique villa, a basilica and a parish church emerged.

Dating back to the end of the third century AD, the stately home was the country residence of a landowner or state official and many of the mosaics dating from the fourth and sixth centuries are still visible.

In the 6th century, some sections of the structure were abandoned while the representative one was transformed into a Christian church; what was to be the early medieval basilica of San Cristoforo ad Aquilam was born in that period, surrounded by a cemetery area.

In the following centuries (VII-X), the church underwent several changes, assuming considerable dimensions, until it became a simple parish church in the late Middle Ages. At the end of the 12th century the oldest part was demolished and the "Chiesola" (demolished in 1858) was built in its place, of which a portion of the perimeter wall was recovered.

Colombarone's function as a center of worship has never ceased. Not far away, in the nineteenth century a church was built and in the early decades of the twentieth century the current parish.

The Antiquarium is located in the spaces of the nineteenth-century church recovered by the Municipality of Pesaro.

A multimedia video introduces the itinerary with an immersive and suggestive reconstruction of the rooms of the villa, rich in colored coverings and wall decorations.

The small and precious museum tells the story of the excavations, starting from the identification of the site by Annibale Degli Abbati Olivieri, and displays the finds found during the research. Among the materials attributable to the stately home (III-VI century) there are sections of lead pipeline for the supply of water to the thermal sector, ceramics, bronzes, glass, tableware in the dining room, and the amphorae that attest the origin of food from all over the Mediterranean basin.

But it is the basilica (6th-8th century) that returns the most singular finds including a stained glass window, fragments of the marble iconostasis of the church (separation between the choir and aisles consisting of an architrave supported by columns) and a rare example of a chandelier suspension with several lights (polycandilon), found together with a monetary treasure and glass chalices of the liturgical apparatus.

Finally, there are interesting objects from the private life of the ancient inhabitants of the site (ornaments and clothing, coins, simple household utensils).

The Colombarone Archaeological Area reopened to the public in 2016 and the Antiquarium in 2019.

To all dear friends of Fabio,
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that, by the desire of the sisters Laura and Daniela Filippello, the city of Gabicce Mare organizes the meeting "Fabio Filippello ... at MG, his land of conquest" in his honor every two years.

We are still waiting to know when our traditional MG meeting will take place.

We hope that this health emergency will allow us to organize the gathering as soon as possible, perhaps planning the postponement from 6 to 12 September 2021.

If, on the other hand, it is possible to organize for the already scheduled date - from May 24th to 30th, it will be our pleasure, within the month of March, to send all participants the information for pre-booking.

The 2021 program will be full of events: parties, skill competitions and the traditional gala dinner, which will also be attended by the sisters Laura and Daniela. The evening will be an opportunity to remember the most salient and exciting moments of the past.

The traffic police will be, as usual, at the head of the meeting, whose role is and has been fundamental in all these years, the photos depicting Fabio "escorted"

It will be an opportunity to remember the most beautiful years of the dear friend, spent by the sea, in the hills of the Marche-Romagna hinterland, accompanied by music, good wine and typical local gastronomic products.

An affectionate greeting from Laura & Daniela Filippello, Angelo Serra, Letizia Vincenzetti

IMPORTANT NEW "Create your Rainbow Cycling Week"
from 1 April (..and this is no joke) all the routes of the Rainbow Cycle Tourism Week will be "darts" as scheduled and therefore you will be able to participate in the Contest independently at any time of the season, even outside the programmed Weeks or with your group of friends.
In Analogue mode, you will be able to validate departure and arrival at one of the partner hotels while in digital mode, all you have to do is cycle on the route of the day, activating the registration on Strava.
At the end of your week, if you finish at least 5 of the 7 courses, you will be rewarded by our Team
What do you think about it? See you on the street?

In order to enjoy our territory on the bike, we have modified the historical event by accentuating the "Tourist" character. The departure will be in the French way, therefore free departure and you will follow the route of the day each at the pace that you deem best. You participate in total autonomy along the routes of the stage, at your preferred speed and pace, following the arrows in the color of the day. The roads are obviously open to traffic and the highway code is in force.

The black route will be the QUEEN STAGE of the event.

Instead of the time trial, there will be the spectacular KING OF THE MOUNTAIN Gabicce Mare - Gabicce Monte.

You will be able to participate in "ANALOGUE" mode starting from 08:00 to 10:00 following the arrows or the Gpx track, considering that you must return to Gabicce by 14:00 You will have to endorse the Participation Book at the start, at the "turning point" in the stage location and in the finish area showing the mileage on your cycle computer.

But the simplest will be the “DIGITAL” Mode Strava Contest. You can register for the Contest through your Strava account:

The departure of each stage is autonomous "French style", follow the arrows or the Gpx track, considering that you must return to Gabicce and close the stage by 19:00

In the Start Zone you activate the recording of the track on your device
Follow the stage with your preferred times and pace
Once back in Gabicce, "close" the track in the Arrival Area
If you don't have a Strava account, you can still create a free one when signing up.
